The new year brings new excitement for the Pokemon TCG with the release of the Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars expansion. This expansion introduces a brand new VSTAR card, a third kind of V-card that adds an extra layer of power to the game. VSTAR cards evolve from basic V forms and have a unique “VSTAR Power” that can turn the game in your favor. For example, Shaymin VSTAR’s Star Power, Star Bloom, heals 120 damage from each of your grass-type benched Pokemon, while Charizard VSTAR’s Star Blaze does a whopping 320 damage. However, it is important to note that you can only use one VSTAR ability per game, not per Pokemon.

In addition to the new VSTAR cards, Brilliant Stars also includes new Trainer Gallery cards that feature Pokemon hanging out with famous faces from the series’ history. These cards are a great way to see old friends like Mustard with his two forms of Urshifu VMAX or Blue with his Jolteon V, Flareon V, and Vaporeon V. Fans of Mimikyu will also be happy to see the release of a Mimikyu VMAX card.

One of the standout cards in the expansion is the god of all Pokemon, Arceus, which comes in both V and VSTAR forms with alternate art versions. Players should also keep an eye out for the set’s golden and rainbow secret rares, including the golden secret rare Arceus VSTAR and the VSTAR Pokemon (Arceus, Shaymin, Charizard, and Whimsicott) in rainbow rares.

There are many ways to acquire Brilliant Stars cards, including buying booster packs, booster boxes, and an Arceus-branded Elite Trainer Box. There are also checklane blister packs that include a few boosters, a coin, and a card, featuring the Sinnoh Eeveelution Leafeon and its ice-type counterpart Glaceon. A new addition to this expansion is the Builds & Battle Stadium, which includes two Build & Battle Boxes, each with a 40-card premade deck, four Brilliant Stars Booster Packs and an exclusive foil promo card, as well as Energy cards, a dice, and condition markers for an easy and customizable gameplay experience.

Overall, Brilliant Stars brings a fresh new mechanic to the game with the introduction of VSTAR cards, as well as new Trainer Gallery cards and alternate art versions of fan-favorite Pokemon. With so much to look forward to, Brilliant Stars continues to cement Sword & Shield as one of the best points in the game’s history.
